Halle Berry Starring in New Thriller The Hive

Halle Berry is ready to finally hit the big screen! Berry, who was last seen in Garry Marshall’s “New Year’s Eve” and recently wrapped work on “Cloud Atlas”, is set to star in Brad Anderson’s thriller “The Hive” for Sony Pictures.

Variety reports that the film is set against the backdrop of a 911 call center and that the fast-paced suspense pic will find Berry playing a 911 emergency operator who must face her own fears in order to save a teenage girl from a disturbed killer.

Berry is back onboard with the film after she was previously attached to the project when Joel Schumacher was onboard to direct. She wasn’t involved with the pic when Anderson signed on to direct in January, citing personal scheduling issues at the time. Several top actresses pursued the project, but Berry recommitted to star after the start date was pushed back.

“Ms. Berry has always been our first choice to star in ‘The Hive,’ and we’re thrilled that we were able to put this together in and around Los Angeles with the help of the California Tax Incentive,” said Helfant and Stein.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Halle on this,” added Anderson. “It’s a formidable role for an equally formidable actress.”

Filming is scheduled to begin in June in Los Angeles.

Halle can also currently be seen in the film “Dark Tide” opposite Oliver Martinez. The film is currently on Video on Demand with a limited theatrical release starting March 30. From there, the film will hit Blu-Ray and DVD on April 24.

Prepare to swim with the sharks this spring as Lionsgate debuts Dark Tide. Starring Academy Award® winner Halle Berry (Best Actress in a Leading Role, Monster’s Ball, 2001) and Olivier Martinez (Unfaithful), the taut and suspenseful thriller follows a small boat expedition deep into the dangerous South African waters known as Shark Alley. Dark Tide is directed by John Stockwell (Into the Blue, Blue Crush, Turistas) from a screenplay by Amy Sorlie and Ronnie Christensen (story by Amy Sorlie).

Kate (Berry) is a shark expert whose business has been failing since a shark attack killed a fellow diver under her command. Once dubbed “the shark whisperer,” Kate is haunted by the memory of the attack and unable to get back into the water. With bills piling up and the bank about to foreclose on Kate’s boat, Kate’s ex-boyfriend Jeff (Martinez) presents her with a lucrative opportunity: lead a thrill-seeking millionaire businessman on a dangerous shark dive…outside the cage. Battling her self-doubts and fear, Kate accepts the proposal — and sets a course for the world’s deadliest feeding ground: Shark Alley.
