Awesome poster and news for Alien fans!

The home of “Aliens”,”Titanic”, “X-Men”, “Romeo & Juliet”, “The Fly”, “Wall Street”, “Planet of the Apes” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks” (sorry!) have blessed us with a double-banger of an early Thanksgiving gift : a new poster and release date for Ridley Scott’s somewhat-anticipated “Alien” prequel, “Alien : Covenant”.

Though essentially a sequel to his “Prometheus”, a film that received fairly mixed reviews when it hit a couple of years ago, “Alien : Covenant” apparently includes enough links to Scott’s “Alien” (1979) film that they’ve been able to get away with slapping an ‘Alien’ atop of it’s title and featuring the legendary creature front and center in the newly-released poster (below). While Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley doesn’t appear, it’s believed the title character – played by Katherine Waterson – might be linked to her in some way. Returning from “Prometheus” are Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace, with Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Billy Crudup, and Amy Seimetz also joining in on the acid-dripping fun.

Directed by Scott, and shot in Australia, “Alien : Covenant” again follows the crew of a colony ship who discover a paradise planet with one single inhabitant: the android David, once again played by the aforesaid Fassbender. And with David comes the alien. And we know what happens next.

In addition to the new poster, Fox have also announced the film’s new release date – smack bang at the start of the US Summer Movie Season! Instead of opening August 4, 2017 it will now open May 19, 2017! That’s a mighty big jump! It could spell good news for fans of the series, with the studio confident they’ve got something solid enough to open at the start of peak blockbuster season!
