Hugh Laurie to play the pirate Blackbeard!

Former “House” star Hugh Laurie looks to return to TV – as a Pirate!

The Brit is in talks to play ‘Blackbeard’ in NBC’s new action-adventure series “Crossbones”, the creation of “Luther”‘s Neil Cross and feature producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, of “The Ring”.

Deadline reports :

The 10-episode Crossbones is set in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (Laurie), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Part shantytown, part marauder’s paradise, this is a place like no other on earth — and a mounting threat to international commerce.

Laurie, who has had don an American accent in most of his recent roles, including “House” and the “Stuart Little” films, would be able to keep his normal British accent for this latest role.

Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg may write Star Wars sequels, too!
