It returns to theaters, sequel will test bladders

“It Chapter Two” helmer Andy Muschietti recently revealed that the conclusion to his Pennywise saga will clock in at an epic 2 hours and 25 minutes – a full half hour longer than the first chapter in the bloody two-parter.

“At the beginning, when you’re writing and building the beats of the story, everything that you put in there seems very essential to the story,” the filmmaker said. “However, when you have the movie finally edited and it’s 4 hours long, you realize that some of the events and some of the beats can be easily lifted but the essence of the story remains intact. You cannot deliver a 4-hour movie because people will start to feel uncomfortable — no matter what they see — but we ended up having a movie that is 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the pacing is very good.

“Nobody who’s seen the movie has had any complaint.”

Based on the footage we caught at Scarediego in San Diego earlier this month, there’ll be complaints from this side of the NBN wiring either.

Meanwhile, if you need a refresher before “It Chapter Two” hits theaters in September, New Line has announced they’re re-releasing the first film in theaters next month.

According to Fandango, “It Chapter One” is returning to theaters for two nights in August “AND includes a post-credit reveal of 8 minutes of new footage from the forthcoming sequel.” No word if that’s the same footage we peaked at Scarediego.

“It” will screen August 3 and 6, according to the aforesaid site.
