Macbeth targeting Denzel Washington & Frances McDormand

If only Shakespeare were still alive today, he’d be rolling in the cash. “Macbeth” has been adapted in many ways over the years, and the latest to have a crack is Joel Coen, whose adaptation is targeting Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. Safe to say if the deals come through, it’ll be pretty damn good.

The Shakespeare classic was first turned into a film by Orson Welles in 1948. For those unfamiliar with the play, the storyline is that a Scottish lord becomes convinced by a trio of witches that he is destined to become king of Scotland. With the help of his ambitious wife, he does what he has to with the goal of seizing the crown.

For Coen’s screen adaptation, Scott Rudin is producing, and the plan is for A24 to distribute worldwide.
