Joel Schumacher wanted these two ladies for his Lost Girls spin-off

"The Lost Boys" (1987)

Shortly after the release of 1987’s “The Lost Boys”, director Joel Schumacher tried to encourage Warner Bros into commissioning a female-led spin-off, albeit one that would feature a couple of crossover characters from his original hit.

Schumacher said back in 2007 that he told studio brass they should do a film with “gorgeous teenage biker chicks who are vampires. It’ll be great.’ But they don’t listen to me.”

The idea, apparently, was to team Kiefer Sutherland’s spiky-haired vamp David (not sure how he survived that staking!?) with a couple of leather-clad neck-nibbling females.

In the latest issue of EMPIRE magazine, the veteran filmmaker revealed who he would’ve liked to have starred in “The Lost Girls” had he gotten the go-ahead to do it.

“Drew Barrymore and Rosanna Arquette on motorcycles”

The “Batman Forever” and “Flatliners” helmer had also pitched a prequel, set around the 1906 earthquake. “I said you could have horses, it could be quite exciting”.

Instead of Schumacher’s ideas (or going with Eric Red’s terrific prequel), Warners – after many, many years – dusted off the “Lost Boys” label for a couple of direct-to-DVD sequels starring Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander, reprising their ‘Frog Brothers’ characters from the original flick.

A TV pilot, based on the original movie, is currently in production. Though that one, spearheaded by “Veronica Mars” alum Rob Thomas, isn’t a continuation of the films and doesn’t feature the same characters, it encompasses a similar storyline.
