Jon Favreau talks Iron Man 3

Quite a few of our colleagues have had the opportunity to visit the set of “Cowboys and Aliens” and chat to, well, not only Harrison Ford but director Jon Favreau. Me? I’m warming up left night’s grilled flake for my daughter.

Naturally, considering his involvement in a certain other franchise, Favreau isn’t only fielding questions about the alien western he’s working on. Not that the publicists would much give a shit… both are Paramount product.

Asked about a third “Iron Man” movie, the one-time “Friends” guest-star (remember? He played the wrestler that Monica dated! Trivia Man, right here!) said Marvel are indeed bankrolling another “Iron Man” flick and tells MTV that “Kevin Feige, who’s been involved with superhero movies with Marvel movies since the X-Men films, is very aware of his path and how to weave [things together], so in theory, ‘Iron Man 3′ is going to be a sequel or continuation of ‘Thor,’ ‘Hulk,’ ‘Captain America’ and ‘Avengers’… This whole world… I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”

And the film might even be scouting for locations already! Troy Record says that the creatives recently visited Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to see whether it might be a fit for the villain’s lair come “Iron Man 3”.

The college confirmed this week that Marvel expressed interest and visited the campus. But nothing is written in stone yet.

“These types of location scouting inquiries and negotiations about EMPAC take place all the time,” said Michael Mullaney, a Rensselaer spokesman. “At this point, there is absolutely nothing certain or definitive about Iron Man 3.”

The film won’t be out until 2013, so dare say nobody will be rushing to initiate negotiations.
