Word is, back before Chris Evans tried on the costume, John Krasinski (”The Office”) was as good as a lock for the role of Captain America but decided to opt out of the movie fearing he didn’t have the goods. In a recent chat with Conan O’Brien, the actor essentially confirmed such rumours – citing Chris Hemsworth as the main reason he couldn’t go through with it. During a costume fitting, Krasinski – who would later beef up for a role in Michael Bay actioner ”13 Hours” – ran into the rather muscular Hemsworth, who plays Thor, and immediately realized he wasn’t bulky enough to pull off an Avenger.
“It was a big deal for me because first of all, I love those Marvel movies, I love superheroes, I love imagination. So when they asked me to test, they actually allowed me to put on the suit, I was on a set, it was all very interesting. I was putting on the suit and thinking this is so amazing; I got about right to my waist, I was still shirtless and feeling pretty good about myself – I felt pretty good. And all of a sudden, Chris Hemsworth walks by in his Thor suit and went, ‘Hey, mate.’ And I went, ‘I’m good. This is stupid … I’m not Captain America, it’s fine. ”
Krasinski seems much better suited to the role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, who he’s about to play in an Amazon series.
