Lucas-free Indiana Jones 5 will be “a little different”

The ideas for the fifth “Indiana Jones” are coming from a new brains trust, as opposed to the usual source, says producer Frank Marshall.

The veteran producer has confirmed that series staple George Lucas is not involved in the latest sequel to the iconic franchise, and it’s making for a “different” experience overall.

According to Marshall, speaking to Coming Soon, a writer’s room has been assembled to piece together a plot for the long-gestating sequel, with Jonathan Kasdan on head storyteller duties.

I love being with George and having his input, but life changes and we’re moving on. He moved on. We’re very respectful of the original intentions of the movie, certainly Harrison’s character. The serialization of what the original intention was. I’d love to have George there. I love being around George and working with him, obviously. It’ll be a little different, because the ideas are coming from a different place now.”

While there’s little info out there on the new film, Marshall says he and director Steven Spielberg can assure audiences this next film – unlike the last in the series, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, which was largely filmed in the U.S – will be set on a global scale.

The new “Indiana Jones”, which will definitely be the last hurrah for Harrison Ford’s take on Jones, is scheduled to open July 9, 2021.
