Netflix sequel talk : Bright 2 and Extraction 2

Netflix are moving forward with “Bright 2”, a sequel to the 2017 film with Will Smith and Joel Edgerton, with Louis Leterrier (“Now You See Me”) to direct. David Ayer directed “Bright”, but has been busy with other projects.

“Bright 2” will reunite Smith and Edgerton in the tale of mismatched crime fighting partners, one of whom is an orc. The script is by Ayer and Evan Spiliotopoulos with a rewrite by T.S. Nowlin. Sources said that the Bright sequel picks up the travails of the odd partnership, but sets it on an international stage.

Joe Russo has closed a deal to write another installment of the high action film “Extraction”, which is going great guns on Netflix. The film stars Chris Hemsworth as mercenary Tyler Rake, and is directed by Sam Hargrave.

Russo is optimistic that a sequel would bring back both Hemsworth and Hargrave, but negotiations won’t start until a script is seen by Netflix.

“The deal is closed for me to write Extraction 2, and we are in the formative stages of what the story can be,” Russo told Deadline. “We’re not committing yet to whether that story goes forward, or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience.”
