New Official Images from Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby

We’ve seen several set pics from Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming take of the F. Scott Fitzgerald adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” while the film is currently shooting in Australia, most recently here. While set pics are all good and dandy, the first official images from the film have hit the web courtesy of The Film Stage.

The film won’t be out until Christmas Day 2012, but that sure didn’t stop Warner Bros. from releasing the first two stills. Come to think of it, I was browsing through some magazine the other day where they were talking about some upcoming films, and “The Great Gatsby” was among them with these same photos and I’d been wondering when they’d be released.

The film will open in 3D and also co-stars Isla Fisher, Callan McAuliffe, Gemma Ward and Jason Clarke.

Synopsis is as follows:

“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

DiCaprio plays Gatsby, Mulligan plays Dasiy, Maguire plays Nick Carraway, and Edgerton takes on the role of Tom Buchanan.

I have to say, looking at these pics, the cast looks fantastic. Not that I didn’t think that beforehand, but still. Can’t wait for the trailer.
