“Prisoners” director Denis Villeneuve will direct “Story of Your Life” for FilmNation and Lava Bear Films. Eric Heisserer’s script is “set in motion when alien crafts land around the world and an expert linguist is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat. As she learns to communicate with the aliens, she begins experiencing vivid flashbacks that become the key to unlocking the greater mystery about the true purpose of their visit.” The film is an adaptation of a short-story by Nebula and Hugo Award-winning author Ted Chiang.(The Hollywood Reporter)
Where to now for “Homeland” after killing-off you-know-who at the end of last season? Showtime prez David Nevins says “Obviously there’s a big reset. This show is fundamentally about a field operative and we really haven’t seen her much out in the field operating. The likely plan for next year is that you will see her on the ground in a foreign capital doing her job. I haven’t had much presented yet [from the ‘Homeland’ creatives], and those guys are spending next week in Washington — they’ve got an incredible itinerary”. (Variety)

Roberto Orci says of Sony’s approach to the upcoming “Sinister Six” and “Venom” films : “That’s the discussion we’re having right now; how exactly do you do that, and how do you do it without betraying the audience and making them all mean? Drew Goddard [Cabin Fever] is going to be writing that one, so it’s kind of his problem. [Laughs] I’m kidding. We’re all working on each other’s stuff. So we want to be true to it, but there are some antiheroes in this day and age. There’s been examples of that even on TV — Vic Mackey on The Shield, one of the great antiheroes of all time. There are ways to milk that story. Audiences have seen everything. They’ve seen all the good guys who never do anything wrong. Is there a story in seeing the other side?
