Paramount remaking Toni Erdmann with Jack Nicholson & Kristen Wiig!

Well… that was quick.

According to Variety, Paramount is set to remake German movie “Toni Erdmann”, which is up for Best Foreign Feature at the Academy Awards this month.

What makes this one even more intriguing is that Jack Nicholson – who hasn’t appeared in a feature film since 2010 – is attached to star in the remake opposite Kristen Wiig.

In fact not only has he nabbed the lead role, but apparently Nicholson was the one who approached the studio with the idea.

The English-language remake of is yet to find a writer or director, but Will Ferrell is among the producers, along with Adam McKay, Wiig, and Jessica Elbaum of Gloria Sanchez Productions. Maren Ade, writer/director of the original “Toni Erdmann”, will exec produce with producers Jonas Dornbach and Janine Jackowski.

Sandra Huller and Peter Simonischek star in the original film which centres on a practical joking father who tries to reconnect with his hard working daughter by creating an outrageous alter ego and posing as her CEO’s life coach. The movie is currently playing in limited cinemas.
