Rupert Sanders to direct Ghost in the Shell

Rupert Sanders (“Snow White & The Huntsman”) will direct a feature based on the classic Japanese manga title “Ghost in the Shell”, says Deadline.

William Wheeler (“The Hoax”) has adapted Masamune Shirow’s 1989 manga about “the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.”

Sanders’ attachment to the project seemingly gets the long-gestating project – in development for over four years now at DreamWorks – going, chugging more steam than before; at the same time, the filmmaker has about two or three other films on his to-do list, so it could be a while before he rolls an inch of film on this one.
