Saorise Ronan talks about her Star Wars Episode VII audition

Every cocksure smuggler and their Wookie seems to have read for JJ Abrams’ “Star Wars Episode VII”.

Saorise Ronan, whose previous franchise began and ended with, er, “The Host : Part I – The End”, is one of the more well-known names confirmed to have read for an unspecified part in the “Return of the Jedi” sequel.

Speaking to the Empire Podcast, Ronan speaks of her audition, stating that even if she never hears any more of it, it was still a blast getting to handle an illuminated stick.

“Everyone has auditioned for it. So many people I know have gone in for the part I’ve gone in for, and guys who’ve gone in for a particular part, so I’d imagine J.J. is probably just scanning the earth to find the people that he needs. But nobody has a clue what it’s about, and nobody’s read the script. So I’ve gone in and read for it, but I have to say, I think it’s the only time I’ve ever thought, ‘You know what? Even if I don’t get it, I had so much fun auditioning, pretending to take out a lightsaber – out of a bag, kind of inspect it and not know what it is. That was… that was great. A lightsaber! Star Wars!”.

Rumour has it that Ronan might have been reading for the part of Han Solo and Princess Leia’s daughter. The new film, as most know, does see the original gang (Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher) do the reprise macarena, but it’s also a sort-of ‘passing the torch’ film, with Han and Luke’s kids, as well as a Skywalker offspring, handling most of the action this time around.

Others said to be in contention for roles in the new “Star Wars” include Michael B.Jordan (“Fruitvale Station”), Alex Pettyfer (“I Am Number Four”), Benedict Cumberbatch (“Star Trek Into Darkness”), David Oyelowo (“The Paperboy”), Sullivan Stapleton (“300 : Rise of an Empire”), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (“Dracula”), Liam McIntyre (“Spartacus : War of the Damned”), Ksenia Solo, and Rachel Hurd-Wood (“Tomorrow When The War Began”). Chloe Moretz has also let it be known that she’d be interested in doing the film. Bigger names, like Daniel Day Lewis and Ryan Gosling, are also rumoured to have been approached. As you can see, Ronan’s quite correct in stating that ‘everyone has auditioned for it’.

“Star Wars Episode VII”, due in theaters 2015, is set thirty years after the events of “Return of the Jedi”, which concluded with the rebels taking down the evil Emperor and his brainwashed apprentice Darth Vader. The script is being written by “Hunger Games : Catching Fire” scribe Michael Arndt.

There’s no Navy SEALS series, and yet Act of Valor is headed to TV!? Priorities, Telepeeps!
