Schwarzenegger says Twins 2 is happening

Publicity still from "Twins"

The long gestating “Twins” sequel – first announced in 2012 – is back on, according to star Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Despite recent comments by co-writer Josh Gad that suggested the movie had been put on the backburner by the studio, Schwarzenegger tells Howard Stern that “Triplets” is happening.

The script (by Gad andd Ryan Dixon), he says, merely needed some “fine-tuning”.

Eddie Murphy is attached to play the third brother alongside Schwarzenegger and “Twins” co-star Danny DeVito.

“We are talking about a sequel, where we find out at the funeral of our mother, when we read the will, that there’s three of us,” the 67-year-old actor said.

In order to claim their inheritance, Schwarzenegger and DeVito’s characters have to track down their long-lost sibling.

“Eddie Murphy loves the idea. Danny DeVito and I had lunch with Eddie Murphy over at my house, and talked about the thing, and we were laughing and laughing the whole meal through because it was such a funny idea.”

While Ivan Reitman, director of the original hit, is attached to produce he hasn’t yet committed to directing.

While Schwarzenegger seems intent on giving the fans what they want by signing up for new sequels to his classics – “Terminator : Genisys” is out in a week, and he’s also attached to “The Legend of Conan”, which starts shooting shortly – he’s also determined to stretch his acting muscles a tad by doing more unique fare like the recent “Maggie” and upcoming revenge drama “478”.
