Spider-Man: Far From Home preview : plot and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” is a mere couple of months away from gracing our cinema screens, and EW have the goss on a large chunk of the plot, plus a great new image of Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) shaking hands with Quentin Beck/Mysterio (played by Jake Gyllenhaal).

We got our first look at Gyllenhaal’s character in the teaser trailer, but this new image is a much better look at his costume and build.

Also starring in the new film include Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury,  Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan – among many other returning cast members.

It goes without saying, if you don’t want to know large chunks of the plot – look away now!

The film follows teenage Peter Parker as he leaves his friendly neighbourhood spider-roots behind and heads for Europe on a class trip. While Peter is looking forward to vacation time, the forces of evil naturally have other plans.

Per EW:

Despite his desire to lie low and explore London, Prague, and Venice with his friends, Nick Fury recruits him to help battle a mysterious quartet called the Elementals, who can manipulate nature. Since Peter doesn’t want to expose his secret identity by gallivanting around Europe in Spidey’s tights, Fury lends him an all-black stealth suit. Fury also connects Peter with a new ally: Quentin Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio, a powerful magician. Spider-Man and Mysterio spark a close friendship.

Director Jon Watts talks about Mysterio: “If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle”.

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” hits theatres July 4th.
