Superhero Movie Updates : Thor 3, Black Panther, Iron Man 4, Avengers 3, Planet Hulk, Sinister Six, Shazam!

Guardians of the Galaxy
Marvel’s Kevin Feige told Collider why they approached Josh Brolin to play Thanos in next week’s blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy”. “We knew he was going to be in this movie. We wanted somebody to be more than just the voice. Josh did the performance as well. We were looking at a wish list of, “Wouldn’t it be great if names,” and his name was on it. And you look at his face and the performances he gives, he could be Thanos without any effects. He has that kind of face and that kind of gravitas to it. We reached out to him and it was one of those things that does not happen all the time but when it does it’s very nice, where he was totally intrigued. He was a fan of what we did, he met with Jeremy Latcham in a hotel in London and learned about the characters a little bit. I spoke to him on the phone a few times. We ran it by James who loved it, ran it by Joss who loved it because Thanos is in this universe because of Avengers. Then we shot him and recorded for it.”

Thor 3/Captain America 3
In the same interview, Feige offered updates on future “Thor” and “Captain America” movies, confirming that threequels to both are in the works. “Both in development, both in the works. Cap has already been announced, so that’s up first. That’s in a further stage. Thor is being outlined right now, so both in the works.” Oh, and will we see Robert Downey Jr. make a return as the Armoured Avenger in a fourth solo outing for Iron Man? “Of course anything’s a possibility. Who the heck knows? We have a lot of work to go to finish Avengers 2. We have a lot of work for whatever Avengers 3 is, that’s all folks need to know. Who knows what happens after that.”

Black Panther/Female-led superhero movie
Collider also asked Feige whether or not we might head to Africa soon (for a “Black Panther” movie) or maybe even see a female superhero get her own movie? “I think we could, it’s a matter of when. It’s a matter of what are those dates, it’s a matter of juggling multiple, successful franchises. Is there a downside to managing multiple, successful franchises? I believe we’re figuring out that there is, which is having the time to do them all. So, at what point do we hold back a franchise or have three or four years between parts of a franchise in order to introduce new ones? Or do you introduce new ones within the body of the films? We’re looking at all those things right now.”

Iron Man 4
Might Robert Downey Jr be arm-twisted into doing a fourth film in the “Iron Man” series? Maybe, says Kevin Feige. “Of course anything’s a possibility. Who the heck knows? We have a lot of work to go to finish Avengers 2. We have a lot of work for whatever Avengers 3 is, that’s all folks need to know. Who knows what happens after that.”

Shazam!
Dwayne Johnson has been yakking with DC and Warners about taking on a superhero role for years now… is it finally about to come off? “DC and I have been talking for a couple of years now,” Johnson told Total Film. “There’s a character out there that we’re gonna announce really soon, that I’m gonna play.”. The artist formerly known as The Rock said the hero has “the power of Superman” and that “Just say the word. That’s all I’m gonna say.” Gotta be Shazam, right!?

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Roberto Orci says the upcoming “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” movie, that he’s attached to produce, won’t be an out-and-out reboot – but it will also be it’s own thing. Speaking to IGN, the “Star Trek Into Darkness” scribe said “One of the first things we did was learn and read… They have 600 pages of research that they have on their stuff. We read through the synopsis of everything they did and we are actually taking into account quite a bit of the canon in a real way. We’re not just a leave it behind reboot. [Haim] Saban cares very much about that. This is something that he created. I had to go to his house, personally, to tell him, “Listen, I’m your man. Miller and Stenz, these are your guys. I promise you I won’t ruin your franchise.” And he said, “It’s very important to me, because kids around the world know what the Power Rangers are. So you can’t just come in here and walk all over it. It better be consistent with what I’ve been doing.” And I said, “Yes sir!”

The Avengers 3
There have been “rumblings behind-the-scenes” about James Gunn possibly taking over for Joss Whedon on the next “Avengers” movie. Bad Ass Digest has the scoop!

Ant-Man
Evangeline Lily is rumoured to be playing Wasp in Peyton Reed’s “Ant-Man” – but according to the former “Lost” star, that’s news to her. “I don’t know anything about those rumors” she said. Lily did hint though that she might be involved in another Comic-Con panel, besides the ones she’s been announced for, in San Diego this week. In other words, there’s a fairly good chance she’s indeed in “Ant-Man”. (/Film)

Planet Hulk
Since everyone else has denied it, James Gunn’s decided to jump on the bandwagon and deny that Marvel has a “Planet Hulk” movie in the works. “I can answer that question very easily: it is absolute, 100% bullshit”, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director tells The Playlist. It feels like a great relief to finally say this after all the dumb stuff on the Internet.””There’s not going to be a ‘Planet Hulk’ movie, there was never going to be a ‘Planet Hulk’ movie, there was never plan for the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy – I wouldn’t want the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy! And it’s all a bunch of complete bullshit.”

Sinister Six
The proposed ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off fixing on ‘The Sinister Six’ may have been cancelled, according to Latino Review. The failure of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” at the box office has reportedly led Sony to question their plans for the Spider-Man series.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
“Xena” and “Battlestar Galactica” alum Lucy Lawless will play an unspecified role on the next season of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”, according to TV Guide.
