Trailer for Tom Hanks weepie Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

This one looks like it might just shatter a few hearts.

Tom Hanks, the guy you just can’t hate (even when he’s in soggy pastry like “Bonfire of the Vanities”), is back in Kleenex territory with the new film by Stephen Daldry “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”. And, though it’s indeed a button pusher of a preview, our first look makes it seem promising.

Newcomer Thomas Horn, Oscar Winner Sandra Bullock and “Sopranos” alum James Gandolfini share the credit block with Hanks.

Just as Peter Weir did with his “Fearless” trailer, the one here makes fine use of a U2 classic to set the tone.

Here’s the official synopsis, trailer and poster :

Oskar (Thomas Horn) is convinced that his father (Tom Hanks), who died in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, has left a final message for him hidden somewhere in the city. Feeling disconnected from his grieving mother (Sandra Bullock) and driven by a relentlessly active mind that refuses to believe in things that can’t be observed, Oskar begins searching New York City for the lock that fits a mysterious key he found in his father’s closet. His journey through the five boroughs takes him beyond his own loss to a greater understanding of the observable world around him.
