“The Americans” actress Keri Russell and “House of Cards” actor Mahershala Ali are set to star alongside Matthew McConaughey in Civil War movie “The Free State of Jones”.
The Wrap reports that Russell and Ali have been cast in the film from “Hunger Games” helmer Gary Ross which also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
The film follows the true story of defiant Southern farmer Newt Knight (McConaughey) and his armed rebellion against the Confederacy during the Civil War.
Russell is will play Knight’s wife, Serena, and Ali will play Moses Washington, an escaped slave who becomes an integral ally of Knight’s rebellion.
Production is currently underway in Louisiana with Ross directing from his own script.
