Venom 2 delayed to 2021; gets official title

Sony’s “Venom” sequel – officially now titled “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” — has been pushed from Oct. 2, 2020, to June 25, 2021.

The comic book sequel fills the spot recently vacated by Warner’s “The Batman”, which now opens October 1, 2021.

Andy Serkis is set to take on his first comic book movie as a director, with the actor-turned-filmmaker to direct the movie. Ruben Fleischer directed the first flick, which had Tom Hardy as the titular star – who will also return for the sequel.

Kelly Marcel has written the script for the sequel. This will be Serkis’ third film as a director, previously taking on “Breathe” in 2017 and “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle”.

“Skyfall” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Naomie Harris will play sonic-powered rogue Shriek in the film, which also features Woody Harrelson as the fan-favorite bad guy called Carnage. In the comics, Shriek was a love interest for the latter.
