What’s next for Eddie Murphy?

Besides “Beverly Hills Cop 4” and “Starship Dave”

Paramount seems pretty keen on having Eddie Murphy stick around – it’s out with Ethan Hunt, and in with Axel Foley! – now that he’s gone and scored himself an Oscar nomination (and a pretty new BMW) with their joint endeavor, “Dreamgirls”. According to Variety, Murphy’s not just attached to star in a forth “Beverly Hills Cop” for the studio, but has inked a deal to front “NowhereLand,” a comedy scripted by Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who is also producing “Beverly Hills Cop 4” for Murphy, will produce with Solomon.

The trade says this will be the next Murphy vehicle after he completes the Fox comedy “Starship Dave.” In it, he will play a successful financial exec who suddenly loses his confidence and finds his career going down the drain. He discovers the answers to his problems within the imaginary world created by his daughter.

Solomon drew the idea from his own life after his young son came up with a suggestion that solved a business problem Solomon was puzzling over.

“We liked the idea of Eddie playing a role he hasn’t played before,” said di Bonaventura. “He showed a bit of that vulnerability in ‘Dreamgirls,’ but this gives him the opportunity to tap into that reservoir of talent.”

In addition, ‘Cabbie’ tells us that the Oscar Nominee (don’t it feel funny to utter those words about the star of “Holy Man”?) will be joined by a couple of old friends on the upcoming, “Beverly Hills Cop 4”. Talking to The Insider, The Murphster reportedly mentioned that Judge Reinhold and John Ashton would be holstering up again to play Axel Foley’s long-time sidekicks, Rosewood and Taggart. According to Murphy though “he hasn’t seen a script yet”.
