Where’s there’s Clerks 3 there’s a Way

My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way will helm Kevin Smith’s on-again off-again on-again “Clerks” threequel.

Currently on the road promoting his latest film “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot”, Smith revealed at a screening of the film this week (via /Film) that the “Umbrella Academy” scribe and ‘Baby, You’re a Haunted House’ singer will be scoring the next adventure of Dante and Randall.

While Way contributed a track to Smith’s “Tusk”, “Clerks 3” will be the first time the New Jersey artist’s completely scored a flick.

Smith’s latest version of “Clerks 3” – there’s been a couple – reportedly sees the two Clerks making a movie- yep, you guessed it, ‘Clerks’. How very meta.

“Randal has a heart attack, decides that he came so close to death, and his life has meant nothing, there’s nobody to memorialize him, he has no family or anything like that. And in the recovery, while under fentanyl, he comes to the conclusion at mid-life, having almost died, having worked in a movie store his whole life and watched other people’s movies, he tells Dante, I think we need to make a movie. So Dante and Randal make ‘Clerks.’ That’s the story of ‘Clerks 3.”

Smith recently revealed that, despite originally abandoning plans to do both, “Clerks 3” and “Mallrats 2” are back on his to-do list.
