Cartoon Spider-Man trumped by Han Solo

With Disney understandably keen to get a move on populating the marketplace with even more “Star Wars”, no surprise to hear the studio’s likely had Chris Miller and Phil Lord clear their schedules so they can get on with that Han Solo prequel sooner rather than later. As a result, the duo’s planned “Spider-Man” movie – an animated take on the Marvel webslinger – has been pushed back six months. Furthermore, the “Lego Movie” helmers are likely only going to produce said film, not direct, due to their commitments to the Lucasfilm project.

The animated Spidey adventure, which will likely encompass the same jokey, self-referential tone as Miller & Lord’s previous films, will open December 21st 2018.

Sony Pictures Animation made the announcement today, alongside noting a couple of new titles to their calendar : “The Emoji Movie” is set to debut on August 11th 2017, while a new take on “Peter Rabbit” will be released on March 23rd 2018.
