Casting: Lawrence, Depp, Jack Reacher, Tremblay, Amell, Taylor, Code Black

Jennifer Lawrence is set to play Marita Lorenz in “Marita”, a pitch by “American Hustle” co-writer Eric Warren Singer.

Sony picked up the project and is looking to release the film towards the end of 2017.

According to THR: Marita centers on Lorenz and how she met and began an affair with Cuban leader Fidel Castro in 1959 when she was 19 years old. After living with Castro for a spell, Lorenz left Cuba and joined anti-communists in the U.S., where she was recruited by the CIA for an assassination mission. In 1960, she returned to Cuba to carry out the mission but, according to lore, yielded to love.

(Lorenz had quite the life, by the way. She also had an affair with a Venezuelan dictator, claimed to have been involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy and spied on diplomats for the FBI in the 1970s. She wrote two autobiographies and lives in Maryland.)

Johnny Depp is in early talks to star in Paramount’s ensemble crime thriller “Triple Frontier”.

J.C. Chandor is attached to helm the film “set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge — making “la triple frontera” difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime” (via Variety).

A role has also been offered to Tom Hanks.

Robert Knepper will join Tom Cruise in Paramount’s “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back”.

In the sequel, Reacher (Cruise) returns to his old Army unit HQ, only to find he’s been accused of a 16-year-old murder.

Knepper will play Gen. Harkness, “a retired general-turned-CEO of a private military contractor firm. He’s described as a man of power, experience and authority who thinks he’s the hero and is not afraid to do what’s necessary” (via Deadline).

Cobie Smulders, Robert Catrini, Danika Yarosh, Aldis Hodge, Patrick Heusinger, Holt McCallany and Austin Hebert co-star from director Edward Zwick.

Young “Room” star Jacob Tremblay is nabbed a guest starring gig on Fox’s “The Last Man on Earth”.

Tremblay will play a young version of Will Forte’s character Phil/Tandy.

Robbie Amell (“The Flash”) and Rachael Taylor (“Jessica Jones”) will star in “ARQ”, a sci-fi thriller to be released by Netflix.

Tony Elliott is directing from his own script. Production will kick off in Toronto this winter.

THR reports, “ARQ is a post-apocalyptic thriller set in the near future when the oil supply has run dry. Trapped in a house and surrounded by a gang of mysterious masked intruders, an engineer (Amell) must protect a technology that could deliver unlimited energy and end the wars that have consumed the world. The only problem is that the technology has created a time loop that condemns him and his friends all to relive the same day over and over.”

Meagan Good has landed a recurring role CBS medical drama “Code Black”.

Good will play Dr. Grace Adams, Neal’s (Raza Jaffrey) ex and a fearless, ambitious attending physician who recently returned to Angels Memorial after spending a year in Haiti doing volunteer humanitarian work.

Her first episode will air on February 10.
