Sherlock Holmes returning to Cinemas

Warner Bros ‘restarting’ the classic series

Gee, when was the last time “Sherlock Holmes” graced the big screen? Was it with Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley in “Without A Clue”? (Think I saw that a couple of times at the cinema – if only because I was ushering at the time). Yeah. I think so. Though the last major ‘Holmes’ film was probably the Spielberg-produced “Young Sherlock Holmes” – something initially planned to be a big-time franchise, that didn’t quite work out that way.

Anyway, the British P.D is returning multiplexes thanks to the ‘home of the restart’, Warner Bros, says Variety. The new film will actually be based on the upcoming Wigram comic, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ – so expect something a little funkier and fresh than say, well, “Without A Clue”.

Neil Marshall, of “Dog Soldiers” and “The Descent” fame, has been tapped with the charge of directing the new Holmes’ first adventure.

Wigram’s vision has Holmes losing some of his Victorian stuffiness and being more adventuresome, including playing up his skills as a bare-knuckle boxer and expert swordsman as he goes about solving crimes.

Michael Johnson is writing the screenplay.
