Casting : Book Club, Hellboy, Dumplin, Aladdin

Alicia Silverstone, Tommy Dewey and Katie Aselton have all been cast in upcoming film “Book Club” from director Bill Holderman. They join an already chockers cast of Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen, Andy Garcia, Don Johnson, Craig T. Nelson, Richard Dreyfuss, Ed Begley Jr and Wallace Shawn (via Deadline).

“Book Club” follows four lifelong friends in their 60s (played by Keaton, Fonda, Bergen and Steenburgen), who read “50 Shades of Grey” as part of their book club group, and consequently their lives change forever. I don’t even want to imagine in what ways. Silverstone and Aselton have been cast as Keaton’s daughters, with Dewey playing Aselton’s husband.

The “Hellboy” reboot has added Ed Skrein (“Deadpool”), joining David Harbour, Ian McShane and Milla Jovovich. According to THR, Skrein will play Major Ben Daimio, a rugged military member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense who, due to a supernatural encounter, can turn into a jaguar when angered or in pain.

Harbour is the new Hellboy, McShane is the adoptive father and Jovovich as a medieval sorceress out to destroy humankind. The upcoming film is set to begin production in September in U.K. and Bulgaria, and is directed by Neil Marshall.

Musical comedy “Dumplin”, by Anne Fletcher, has added Dove Cameron, Luke Benward, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Maddie Baillio, Georgie Flores, and Ginger Minj [seriously, is this her real name?!] to its cast. They join topliners Jennifer Aniston and Danielle Macdonald as well as Odeya Rush (via Deadline).

The film is based on the 2015 novel by Julie Morgan, and follows Willowdean (Macdonald), nicknamed Dumplin, a confident, plus-sized teen who, to spite her beauty pageant queen mom (Aniston), enlists in a local pageant. What starts as an impulsive one-day protest snowballs as Will inadvertently becomes the inspiration for a ragtag group of teenage outcasts joining the pageant.

Guy Ritchie’s live-action “Aladdin” is adding to its cast, with Numan Acar cast as Hakim, Jafar’s right hand man and the head of the guards. He joins Will Smith as Genie as well as Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, in the roles of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, respectively.

The film is a live-action reboot of the 1992 classic, in which Aladdin finds a magic lamp and the bigger-than-life genie that grants him three wishes. News via Deadline.
