E.T star joins TV’s Justice League!

Former child star – turned genre-flick regular – Henry Thomas will play a pivotal Justice League of America character in upcoming superhero streaming series “Stargirl”.
Thomas, who got his break as Elliott in 1982’s “E.T : The Extra Terrestrial” and later co-starred in such films as “Psycho IV : The Beginning”, “Fire in the Sky” and 2016’s “Ouija : Origin of Evil”, will play Dr. Charles McNider, a.k.a. Dr. Mid-Nite.

Quite the departure for Thomas, who has spent a great deal of his professional career in horror and supernatural fare – including the recent “Haunting of Hill House” for Netflix.
McNider is “a brilliant and forward-thinking medical pioneer” as well as the “founding member of the JSA. With his trusty owl, he acts as the team’s resident doctor and detective”, says EW, who had the scoop on Thomas’s casting.

Kwesi Ameyaw played Dr. Mid-Nite on The CW’s ‘’Legends of Tomorrow”, while Corey Burton voiced the character in “Batman : The Brave and the Bold”.

There’s some really interesting casting decisions being made on “Stargirl” – in addition to Thomas, it was announced last week that Joel McHale will play Golden Age Starman/Sylvester Pemberton and Lou Ferrigno Jr will be the Golden Age Hourman. Brec Bassinger will play the lead, Stargirl.

The series follows Courtney Whitmore, a high school sophomore, as she inspires a group of young heroes to fight villains from the past.

Here’s the synopsis for the show : Courtney is smart, athletic and above all else kind. This high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. ‘Borrowing’ the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes

Comics vet Geoff Johns, who co produces the series and created the title character, said of Bassinger’s casting : “There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl, and after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.”

“Stargirl” is expected to air in 2019 on DC Universe.
