Barbie movie a go with Margot Robbie!

That Margot Robbie-starring “Barbie” movie, based on the timeless, twisty doll from the Mattel factory, is a go.

The “Mary, Queen of Scots” star has signed on to officially play the bubbly blonde – stretch! – as well as co-produce the film alongside WB and Mattel brass.

“Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery. Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president,” said the actress. “I’m so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide. I can’t imagine better partners than Warner Bros and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.”

The search now begins for a director, with Patty Jenkins (“Wonder Woman”) most recently mentioned as a possible contender.

The live-action “Barbie” film has been a long time coming, with different incarnations – one starring Amy Schumer (!) and another with Anne Hathaway – failing to impress the Kens at the studio. Robbie’s track record, particularly with Warner Bros, was likely enough to get the deal done with Mattel.
