Schwarzenegger’s Last Action Hero next on the remake block!?

Has the well really ran that dry that we’re now remaking films considered “career enders”?

When it was released in 1993, John McTiernan’s “Last Action Hero” – despite being a perfectly enjoyable film – was deemed a miscalculated misfire that would temporarily dethrone Arnold Schwarzenegger as the reigning king of action cinema. The main beef folks had with the film was the fact that so much moolah was poured into a movie that chalked up to being simply ‘ OK’.

A quarter of a century later, “Last Action Hero” is now looked upon much more kindly, with some even considering it a worthy addition to Schwarzenegger’s CV (especially considering the poor flicks he has made since). No surprise then to hear Sony is considering remaking the movie.

The pic, says We Got This Covered, is in early development so it’s too early to say no which current action star – John Cena? Dwayne Johnson? Vin Diesel? – will take on the role of this in (and out) movie hero.

If you’re going to remake a Schwarzenegger film, wouldn’t it make more sense to remake “The Running Man” or “Hercules in New York”? One that might actually lend itself to a contemporary redo.
