Scott Derrickson to head up Labyrinth sequel

Scott Derrickson, director of “Doctor Strange”, will direct the sequel to “Labyrinth” for TriStar Pictures. The 1986 film, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connolley, and was directed by Jim Henson. Maggie Levin will write the script for the sequel.

“Labyrinth” saw teenage Sarah (Connelly) journeys through a maze to recover her baby brother (Toby Froud) from a goblin king (Bowie).

Per Deadline, Lisa Henson of The Jim Henson Company is producing. Brian Henson is executive producing. Derrickson is executive producing with his frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill. Blanca Lista, SVP of feature film production for Henson, is shepherding the project for The Jim Henson Company.

Derrickson recently bowed out of tackling “Doctor Strange 2” over creative differences.
