True Lies TV series a go at CBS with Terminator : Salvation director

Universal Pictures

The long-gestating “True Lies” TV series (James Cameron opted to go that route instead of doing a sequel to the 1994 film) has been commissioned by CBS.

This one has promise. McG (“Charlie’s Angels”) is directing and producing, “Burn Notice” and “Gifted” creator Matt Nix is writing the pilot and executive producing, and James Cameron, who directed the original Ahnuld-led movie blockbuster, is executive producing.

While a cameo is always a possibility, Schwarzenegger’s not involved in this incarnation.

Roughly the same storyline as the original film, which also starred Jamie Lee Curtis :

In it, shocked to discover that her bland and unremarkable computer consultant husband is a skilled international spy, an unfulfilled suburban housewife is propelled into a life of danger and adventure when she’s recruited to work alongside him to save the world as they try to revitalize their passionless marriage.

McG, whose other credits include “We Are Marshall” and “Terminator : Salvation”, has been trying to make a “True Lies” TV series for the better part of 5 years. At one stage, a version with Marc Guggenheim as a writer sold to Fox with a put pilot commitment. It did not go beyond the script stage but the filmmaker continued his efforts.

After working with Nix on Disney+’s remake of “Turner & Hooch”, McG teamed with the scribe to take another stab at “True Lies”. CBS bit.
