First Look at Benjamin Walker in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Finally. A new image from director Timur Bekmambetov’s (“Wanted”) upcoming 3D adaptation of “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” has hit the web thanks to USA Today.

If you’ve read the book like I have, you’re probably excited to see Abraham Lincoln, played by Benjamin Walker, kicking some vampire ass.

Out June 22, here’s the synopsis:

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a re-imagining of the 16th President’s life that depicts him as an axe-throwing, highly accomplished killer of vampires — an obsession of his since those bloodsuckers supposedly took the life of his mother. Lincoln eventually learns that the vampires have fled to the southern states of the U.S. and are concocting a plan to conquer and enslave the entire country — this in turn leads to the Civil War between the Union and the Confederacy, the latter of which the vampires are aligned with.

And if you’re thinking this’ll be anything like “Twilight”, think again. Bekmambetov tells us how his vampires are different:

Director Timur Bekmambetov, known for his vampire flick “Night Watch”, says the latest breed of vampires is “more grounded, less glamorous” than the Twi-crew, but they have also walked among us for centuries.

In Bekmambetov’s mind, they remain far more interesting subjects than zombies. “Vampires are emotional and sexual,” he says. “Zombies are just not interesting. They are stupid and boring.”

The film is based on the novel by Grahame-Smith and is being produced by Tim Burton.

“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” will also star Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Alan Tudyk, Rufus Sewell, Jimmi Simpson and Robin McLeavy.
