Horror remake culprit Marcus Nispel (“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “Friday the 13th”, “Conan the Barbarian”) has signed on to direct the most original film of his career, and one with a title that matches his persona, “Hack/Slash”, the film adaptation of the popular horror-action comic book, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Created by Tim Seeley and Stefao Caselli, the comic follows Cassie Hack, a woman who symbolizes the cliche of the lone young woman left standing at the end of every horror flick; however, in this twist of fate, the girl not only survived by becomes the dispatcher of the killers themselves. Protected by the hulking, muscular Vlad, Hack travels the country searching for and killing slashers in a vein not dissimilar to that of Jason Voorhees or Freddy Krueger himself.
Though the project has had a veritable revolving door of writers and directors (including “Apparition” director Todd Lincoln), seems Nispel is here to stay. Alexandra Milchan, Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter are set to produce. Originally set up by Universal’s now-defunct genre division Rogue Pictures, the film has since been acquired by Relativity.
Well-known for his work in the horror genre, Nispel is also developing another typically gory flick called “Blackmask”.
