Joel Kinnaman is the new RoboCop!

Joel Kinnaman, the young up-and-comer who rose to fame as a result of his knockout turn in the English-language remake of “The Killing”, will play officer Alex Murphy aka RoboCop in MGM’s long-gestating “RoboCop” remake, according to Deadline.

Director Jose Padilha had at one time mentioned Michael Fassbender for the lead, but he was always going to be a hard snag.

Kinnaman, who was all set to star in Warner’s “Arthur & Lancelot” before the Dave Dobkin-directed project fell through, seems like he could work a treat in the reheating of the Verhoeven classic.

I can’t believe I’m not more against the idea of a “RoboCop” remake, but I think it’s simply because there’s been countless TV shows, mini-series and even cartoons based on the property – what’s another extension?

Sacha Baron Cohen allowed to now attend Oscars – and as The Dictator!
