Michael Fassbender to star in and produce Assassin’s Creed movie

Busy bee Michael Fassbender will star in and executive produce a feature film taken on the well-known video-game “Assassin’s Creed”.

The “Shame” and “Prometheus” star will produce the flick, a high-profile project based on Ubisoft’s biggest franchise, through his DMC Film banner.

“Assassin’s Creed” will feature Fassbender as the hero, a hooded renegade who learns his ancestors were trained assassins after he kid kidnapped by a secret troupe with ties to the Knights templar. The man is sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts.

“Michael Fassbender was our first choice” to play the franchise’s iconic hooded hero, said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures, in an interview with Variety. “Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”

Ubisoft are planning to develop the film independently, though as recently as late October Sony were in the mix.

“We’re open to re-discuss with the key studios once the production package is finalized,” Baronnet told Variety.

Ubisoft also want to develop films based on some of their other properties, namely “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell” and “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon”.
