G.I Joe Retaliation reshoots weren’t about adding more Channing Tatum

When Paramount opted to push “G.I Joe : Retaliation” from 2012 to 2013 most assumed it had something to do with Channing Tatum, whose character was originally set to be killed off pretty early on in the film. Due to Tatum’s popularity, most suggested the filmmakers were going back to fix it so that not only did Tatum’s character ‘Duke’ now live in the film – co-starring Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis – but he had more to do too.

Speaking with the film’s producer, Crave Online discovered that there hasn’t been much more ‘Tatum’ added at all.

“It’s not much different,” Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura says. “Literally, we shot for three extra days. We just added sort of explanation in what we did afterwards.”

(That suggests they changed it so that Tatum’s character now ‘lives’ in the film. Just in case they decide to bring him back for the third “G.I Joe”, presumably).

Though reshoots were done, Di Bonaventura says they weren’t built around the Duke character.

“That is a complete rumor. I don’t know where that started. Literally, Channing shot for – if I have it wrong, I’m off by an hour – four hours, five hours? So it wasn’t really about that at all.”
