Jared Harris to battle Poltergeist with Mortal Instruments!

Jared Harris has booked a lead role in the film most websites are still mistakenly referring to as a ‘remake’ of 1982’s “Poltergeist”.

As I’ve said time and time again, the film isn’t a remake – not in the slightest sense. If anything, the Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) directed film takes it’s cue from Fede Alvarez’s recent “Evil Dead”, in that it’s set after the events of the previous films – and even includes references and visual homages to what has come before. In this case, the new family at the center of this yarn (Rosemarie DeWitt and Sam Rockwell playing the parents) find themselves haunted by the same pants-wetting spites that scared the Freelings back in the ’80s. We won’t see the Freeling’s, but we will see some things they’ve left behind – like that old TV set, and some ‘Star Wars’ bed sheets.

Much like “Evil Dead” and another non-remake “The Thing” (2011), it probably could do with a title change, but I guess the brand, without subtitle, attracts punters easily. Or investors. Or someone.
Anyway, where was I? Yes, Jared Harris, recently in “Mortal Instruments : City of Bones”, has snagged a plum role in the film. He’s playing sort of a contemporary version of Zelda Rubenstein’s Tangina Barrons character.

Says Deadline :

Harris will play Carrigan, a larger than life TV personality who left the world of academia behind to become the star host of basic cable TV show Haunted House Cleaners.

Harris, also recognized for his role in the “Sherlock Holmes” sequel, and “Mad Men”, has been doing pretty well for himself lately. He’s also recently been snapped up by the “Man from U.N.C.L.E.” flick.
