The Legend of Big Willy

Fresh Prince, the new Schwarzenegger?

I believe I was in diapers the first time “I am Legend” was about to get up.

A decade or so later, I’m still in diapers, and so is the film.

Looks like the film, originally envisioned as a vehicle for Arnold Schwarzenegger – until his heart problems and an escalating budget put a stop to it – and before him, Tom Hanks, might be getting off the ground though – finally – with news that Will Smith might be headlining the long-gestating project.

Francis Lawrence (“Constantine”) will direct the film, based on the 1954 science fiction novel by Richard Matheson about the last man alive in Los Angeles. He actually lives in a suburb of what was then a not-so-built-up metropolis.

I’ve got to tell ya, I really would’ve liked to have seen the Schwarzenegger version, but I’m confident – considering their respective solo efforts – that the Fresh Prince and Lawrence can serve up something worthwhile.

I recall they had to re-write the script when it suddenly went from being a Hanks vehicle to a Schwarzenegger vehicle, to retool it as more of an action piece of the Oak, so I wonder whether they’re going back to that original pre-action draft? – Or combing the two?
