Donnie Yen is said to be a lock for Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars : Episode VIII”, according to Hong Kong’s Apple Daily.
The outlet has no details on what role the actor and martial artist, whose credits include “Hero” and “Ip Man”, would fill.
Twitchfilm believe that Apple Daily may have their “Star Wars” films mixed up, because they’ve heard the now-lensing “Star Wars : Rogue One” are currently chasing Chinese actors, including a major Asian action star, to join the cast. That would make more sense too, considering “Episode VIII” won’t start shooting until the end of the year at the earliest and “Rogue One” are currently casting.
Should “Rogue One” be the film Yen is involved with, he won’t be playing a Jedi – director Gareth Edwards has confirmed that no Jedis will feature in that particular movie, which fixes on a group of rebels who team up to steal the plans to the Death Star.
