Blomkamp’s Alien Resurrection

Is Neill Blomkamp’s dead-set brilliant “Aliens” sequel proposal back in development?

that’s the word from oft-reliable Patreon scooper Daniel Richtman who, without serving up any more on the dish, might put a smile back on the dial of franchise fans hoping to see that beast of a movie.

For the unversed, the “District 9” helmer’s movie would be set after James Cameron’s “Aliens” (1986) where, instead of killing off Hicks (Michael Biehn) and young Newt, they too would live to fight another day alongside creature-wrangler Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver).

Both Weaver and Biehn were gung-ho for the project, and even original “Aliens” director James Cameron fancied the idea. But Fox, back before they were gobbled whole by Mickey Mouse, were more interested in doing prequels, sequels and whatever-else to Ridley Scott’s “Alien” prequel films, “Prometheus” and “Alien Covenant”. Blomkamp’s idea was iced.

Wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Cameron is the one who has convinced Disney – who he’s going to be making buckets of money for in the future, considering the slate of “Avatar” films he’s providing them – to consider Blomkamp’s film. In fact, in an interview with JoBlo last year, Cameron said he was working with Blomkamp on getting it going.

Is it going? guess we’ll find out shortly!
