Oscar nominee Eric Roberts, largely employed by indies the last decade or two, has been cast in “La La Land” director Damien Chazelle’s next film.
“Babylon” is an ode to the golden age of Hollywood, says The Hollywood Reporter, set in the late ’20s when the movie industry was transitioning from silent films to talkies.
Described around town as “The Great Gatsby” on steroids, it begins shooting in June with Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt headlining.
Roberts, whose recent credits include “Killer Advice”, “Unchained” and the award-winning independent film “Unbridled”, Max Minghella, Lukas Haas, Flea, Rory Scovel, Samara Weaving, P.J. Byrne and Damon Gupto have joined the sprawling cast, which also includes Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li and Katherine Waterston.
An Academy Award nominee for 1984’s “Runaway Train”, Roberts is also well-regarded for his work in “Star 80”, “King of the Gypsies”, “The Ambulance” and “The Dark Knight”.
