New Muppets movie may give you both a Woody and a Buzz

As a cinema-going youngster it was commonplace to see a cartoon short before the main feature. Whether it was a Looney Tunes cartoon or something else, it was the norm for exhibitors to run a little film (then the ‘Village Candy Counter Ad’) before the main offering.

Disney are intent on bringing the ‘toon short back (they’ve been trying for years; remember the ‘Roger Rabbit’ toon that played in front of “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”?) – and those of a premium quality too (some that might even have people paying to see the short rather than the feature).

A new “Toy Story” short called “Barbie and Ken’s Hawaiian Vacation” will run in front of “Cars 2” this July; now The Sly Oyster says a second “Toy Story” short will air in front of this year’s “Muppets” movie (due at Christmas).

No word on which ”Toy Story” characters will appear in this one (likely someone other than Ken and Barbie since they’ll already have had their own short) but one things for sure ”The Muppets” has just sold a few more thousand tickets. And may I say, thank god Disney bought the Muppets franchise – if Sony or NBC still owned the Henson property we’d likely to have sit through a 5-minute short based on characters from “The Bounty Hunter” or classic clips from “Last Call with Carson Daly” before the film started.
