New Star Wars series in development for Disney with Jon Favreau writing/producing

Disney’s upcoming streaming service is getting good material early, with Jon Favreau tapped to write and executive produce a “Star Wars” series for the network.

LucasFilm made the announcement on StarWars.com, with the following statement from president Kathleen Kennedy:

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Favreau is thrilled to be returning to the “Star Wars” galaxy:

“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

Favreau is no stranger to the “Star Wars” universe, or that of the Disney one either. He has voiced a role in the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and will also star in the upcoming “Solo: A Star Wars Story”.

He’s also been involved with the “Iron Man” franchise, and is currently working on the upcoming “Lion King” reimagining, due out 2019.
