Chances of Peter Weller returning for RoboCop sequel just increased

A few months back, “RoboCop” fans were hit with the exciting news Alex Murphy was being towed out of the OCP storage room for a movie that would continue the story of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic.

While director Neil Blomkamp (“Chappie”) let it be known that he wants Peter Weller, who played the law-enforcing part-man part-machine in the first two films (Robert J.Burke would take over for Weller in “RoboCop 3”), to reprise his role for the new ‘sequel’, follow-up reports suggested 71 year-old actor wasn’t keen on jumping back into the suit.

How quickly things can change. While it’s definitely not confirmation that he’ll be back for the movie, today a new ad for KFC hit with Weller back as RoboCop! Yup, Murphy knows the secret ingredients of that Potato & Gravy now. He’s also going to know where they get those nuggets.

Okay, while it’s likely not Weller in the suit (it doesn’t need to be) in the commercial, and he’s merely lending his vocal chords to the character, the fact the veteran actor was keen enough to help resurrect the character for a fast food chain commercial suggests the studio and Blomkamp shouldn’t have any trouble convincing him to return for the upcoming “Robocop”. Right!?
