Sopranos movie gets title, big screen release

HBO has announced that the highly-anticipated “Sopranos” prequel movie, now titled simply “Newark”, will release September 25, 2020.

As opposed to the net’s “Deadwood” movie, which will air on the small screen, the Alan Taylor-directed gangster drama will get a big screen bow.

The film, starring Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, and John Magaro, is set during the Newark riots of July 1967 and largely fixes on the bloody bout between African-Americans and Italian-Americans in Jersey at the time.

Michael Gandolfini, son of the late James Gandolfini, takes over for his father as a young Tony Soprano.
