Sub-Mariner movie to be part of the MCU!

Marvel Studios’ Joe Quesada has offered up an update on the long-gestating ‘Sub-Mariner’ movie.

The title, which studios have tinkered with a couple of times (at one stage both Dwayne Johnson and Matt Damon were rumoured to be in talks to play The King of Atlantis, with Jonathan Mostow attached to direct at one point), is finally free of the messy red-tape that’s been holding back a flick.

Most recently, it was rumoured Universal and Legendary Pictures might have partnered up on a Namor film. Apparently they were rushing to get “Sub-Mariner” into cinemas before DC’s “Aquaman”. Or something. But didn’t happen.

Studio prez Kevin Feige has said in the past that “Sub-Mariner” has a ‘complicated’ rights history. On Kevin Smith’s Fat Man on Batman podcast, Marvel CCO Joe Quesada had an update on all that: “I can’t speak for studios…As far as I know, yeah we do. It’s not at Fox, it’s not at Sony…Yeah.”

Asked if we might see a movie version soonish, he said “I cannot confirm or deny, sir.”
