Casey Bloys, president of programming at HBO, has confirmed that “True Detective” will return for a third season. He’s also confirmed that Mahershala Ali (“Moonlight”) will star on the season.
The show has yet to hire a director, but Bloys noted that the station is talking to potentials, and that there are 5 terrific scripts finished for the third coming. The long-gestating third season has creator Nic Pizzolatto on board alongside David Milch.
The first season of “True Detective” was a huge success, and while the second season tapered off a little bit in ratings, HBO obviously has enough confidence in it to bring it back a third time.
Thanks to Deadline for this news.
