Supernatural spinoff Wayward Sisters gets a familiar cast

Fans of “Supernatural” will be very familiar with the Kansas song “Carry On My Wayward Son” used as the unofficial theme song to the show, so it’s unsurprising that an all-female “Supernatural” spinoff comes with the title “Wayward Sisters”. The spinoff won’t have 2 sisters as a direct opposite to “Supernatural’s” Sam and Dean, but rather a group of girls that form a makeshift family, as they have all been orphaned by a supernatural tragedy.

The group is led by popular “Supernatural” character Sheriff Jody Mills (played by Kim Rhodes), and Briana Buckmaster (Sheriff Donna Hanscum), Kathryn Newton (Claire Novak) and Katherine Ramdeen (Alex Jones) all from the show are joining her (via Deadline). These characters will be familiar to “Supernatural” fans, as they all have played a part in the series. Newtons’s character Claire is the daughter of Castiel’s human vessel, and lives with Jody as a now-gifted hunter. Ramdeen’s Alex was rescued by the Winchesters from a family of vampires, used to lure unsuspecting humans. Buckmaster’s character, like Rhodes’, is a fan favourite and close friend of Jody.

A new face has also been added to the cast, with young’un Clark Backo to play a newly created character, Patience Turner. Patience discovers she is a psychic, a power she inherited from her grandmother and season one “Supernatural” character Missouri Moseley. Missouri (played by Loretta Devine) will also return to “Supernatural” for an episode in the upcoming 13th season.

The spinoff will be introduced in a backdoor pilot episode during “Supernatural’s” 13th season. The last attempt at a spinoff through this way failed miserably, with the episode “Bloodlines” being dubbed the worst “Supernatural” episode of all time. Let’s hope this one has more success. Season 13 returns to The CW on October 12.
