Why Dwayne Johnson isn’t in Fast & Furious 9

Dwayne Johnson won’t be a part of “Fast & Furious 9”.

Easy for one to assume why, too – he simply doesn’t want to be in the next movie, considering what an unpleasant experience it was for him working on the last flick, right?

Seems not. According to Johnson, his no-show has nothing to do with his beef with Vin Diesel – and vice versa – and promises Hobbs will be back later on.

According to the wrestler cum actor, who stars alongside Jason Statham in their own upcoming spin-off “Hobbs and Shaw”, neither he or the Brit action star can squeeze the film in due to ill timings.

“The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand”, Johnson tells MTV News. “As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting. But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because look, at the end of the day, the truth is, there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.”

Johnson joined the franchise in “Fast Five”, consequently appearing in each film after that.

”Hobbs and Shaw” is in theaters August 2,  with “Fast & Furious 9”  due for release April 10th, 2020. A tenth and reportedly film in the series is due for release 2021.

It was also reported recently that a “Fast & Furious” film featuring a female cast was in development.
